Skip Dollywood for a day: 8 Pigeon Forge credits plus overflow
A mercenary alpine loop for when you already did the big park — or you
have one day to kill and would rather bank mountain coasters than wait
in a Lightning Rod line. No hotel math. Parkway traffic is the boss.
Core credits8 at 7 stops
Time~7–9 hours
Tickets only~$130 + tax
StartGoats, 9am
LodgingNone — day loop
OverflowSkyLand, then Gburg
Count alpines, or skip this page.
Most of these are mountain / alpine coasters. Coaster Count often
files them in their own bucket. If you only count traditional
sit-down credits, Dollywood is the day — not this.
The mapped order
Start west on Wears Valley so you are rolling before the Parkway
clogs. Then dip toward The Spur for Racing, grab The Island and Lost
Mine in the middle of town, and finish on Veterans / the north
Parkway. Overflow is north to Sevierville or south to Gatlinburg —
not both unless the roads are unreasonably kind.
Schematic, not turn-by-turn. Stops 1–7 are the core day; dashed
south line is evening overflow.
How the clock actually works
Budget 20–40 minutes per alpine if you park, buy one
ride, ride, and leave. Lost Mine and Rocky Top are the slow ones:
onboard time is advertised around 9–18 minutes
depending how hard you ride the brakes. Seven core stops plus driving
is a 7–9 hour day when it is walk-on.
The tenth hour is overflow, not a promise. Thunder closes sleds;
the Parkway on a Saturday in October can eat a stop by itself.
Ticket ballpark for one adult, one ride each, no lodging:
$15 + $18 + $25 + $6 + ~$19 + ~$18 + ~$30 at Rowdy ≈
$130 before tax. ACE at Rocky Top knocks about $6
off that one window. This is not a $100 day.
Stop by stop
1. Goats on the Roof — Goat Coaster
1341 Wears Valley Rd · ~$15 adult · opens 9am
Furthest west, earliest posted open — that is why it is first. The
sled is ~4,875 ft and about seven minutes. You control the brake;
dump it if you came for a credit, not a scenic cruise.
Buy the coaster only ($15 ages 13+, plus tax). The
goats, fudge, and gem mine are the trap. Park in their lot, ride,
leave. They run rain; they stop for thunder — call
865-366-7337 if the sky looks stupid.
2. Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster — Alpine Coaster
867 Wears Valley Rd · ~$18 adult · typically 10am
Same corridor, closer to the Parkway (traffic light #3). Posted
hours are usually 10am–10pm Sun–Thu, 11pm Fri–Sat. Adult ride is
commonly $18; same-day re-rides are cheaper if you
somehow have time, which you will not.
One ride, back to the car. Do not wait around for “the night lights”
on a credit-run clock.
3. Pigeon Forge Racing Coaster — Racing Coaster
115 Conner Heights Rd · ~$25 adult · The Spur
South of downtown on the spur toward Gatlinburg — the geographic
awkward one. Hit it now so you are not doubling back from
Sevierville later. Adult tickets are about $25;
buy online if you want to skip the booth. Military discount is
in-person only on their own writeups.
Dual racing tracks, ~10 minutes, LED at night. You need one lap.
Then get back on 441 north toward The Island.
4. The Island — Spinning Parrot
131 The Island Dr · $5.99 · pay-per-ride
The only traditional-ish credit on this list, and the cheapest.
Do not buy a wristband for one spinning kiddie
coaster. Walk in (the Island itself is not a gate), pay $5.99 at
the ride, 36" minimum.
Parking is the Island lots / nearby paid decks — budget a few
dollars and a short walk. Skip the Wheel, the fountain, and lunch
unless you are already melting.
5. Lost Mine Mountain Coaster
2509 Teaster Ln · buy coaster-only · 10am–10pm
Behind The Island; look for the red mining shack. Four lifts, ~5,400
ft, 9–18 minutes onboard — this is where a “quick stop” becomes a
half hour even with no line. Coaster101 still has the best
enthusiast notes: themed indoor queue, view of the Island wheel on
the third lift.
Ask for coaster only (often around $19). The ~$29
adult number on the homepage is the golf combo — you do not need
mini golf. Night lighting and the $9.99 ride-again pass are for a
different itinerary.
6. Rocky Top Mountain Coaster
2940 Veterans Blvd · ~$18 / ACE $12 · 10am
Across from the Dollywood side of town, longest mountain coaster
they advertise in East Tennessee, ~9 minutes on the sled. Window
adult fare is commonly about $18.
ACE: a member who rode it reports showing an
American Coaster Enthusiasts card at the ticket window and paying
$12 adult ($6 off). That is a field report, not a
printed menu — take the card, ask before they ring full price, and
do not argue if the offer is gone.
If you already know you will overflow to SkyLand, ask about the
Smoky Mountain Double Coaster Combo (Rocky Top +
Wild Stallion + a wildcard re-ride). Only buy it if the bundle
beats two singles at the windows that day.
Atlas tags this half because families stay for tubing.
You are here for two RCDB credits in one parking lot
— Avalanche (the power coaster) and Ski Lift Shootout (the alpine
flyer with targets). Skip tubing and axe throwing.
They advertise free parking (they even price it as
a $15 value). Buy two singles or a 1-hour wristband,
whichever is cheaper for exactly two rides — not unlimited play.
Weekday close can be as early as 6pm (seasonal /
event hours move around). Do not save Rowdy Bear for “after dinner”
without checking the board or 865-365-1883.
Overflow if the Parkway behaves
Core loop is 8 credits. These are how you sniff at 10 without
pretending the clock is guaranteed.
SkyLand Ranch — Wild Stallion (Sevierville)
1620 Parkway · ~5 minutes from Rocky Top
Longest mountain coaster they claim in the Southeast, 8+ minutes.
You can buy a Wild Stallion ticket without ranch
admission. Pair it with Rocky Top’s combo if the math
works. This is the clean first overflow — same company cluster as
Rowdy Bear.
Gatlinburg night — Moonshine, then Ripley’s
Parkway downtown · one garage, walk both
If you still have legs after Racing’s neighborhood, park
once downtown and walk. Moonshine Mountain Coaster
(306 Parkway) and Ripley’s Mountain Coaster (a few blocks) are both
stop venues. Moonshine often runs until 11pm; they
like to sell 3-ride packs — buy a single at the window if you can.
Do not add Anakeesta. Gondola + two credits is a
half day in Atlas for a reason. Ober’s Tennessee Flyer is the same
trap with a tram. Wilderness Rocky Top Glider is an indoor
waterpark credit, not a 20-minute grab. NASCAR SpeedPark is about
$45 for one family/kiddie credit — only if you are
closing a personal list.
What this day refuses to be
Not a Dollywood guide, and not “every credit in the Smokies.”
Not lodging, meals, or gas — tickets and clock only.
Not live wait times. Alpine stacks when a bus unloads.
Not turn-by-turn. Use the planner for a hub pin and drive order if
you want a map that moves.
